Apr. 17, 20152015 Kennedy Center Spring Gala @ The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
As one of Washington's premier benefit engagements, the annual Kennedy Center Spring Gala provides critical funding to support the Center's performances, education, and outreach initiatives.
For the 2015 Spring Gala, It Don't Mean a Thing… A Celebration of Swing, the Kennedy Center pays tribute to America's swing era of the 1930s and 40s--a time when Big Band jazz served as a pulse for American culture. Young adults crowded dance clubs across the country to take their turn doing the Jitterbug and Lindy Hop to the music of Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and smooth vocals of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nat King Cole. An all-star cast--including multiple Tony and Grammy Award winner Audra McDonald, Broadway and television sensation Megan Hilty, Broadway star Cheyenne Jackson, Grammy winner and Golden Globe nominee Terence Blanchard, and 14-time Grammy winner Paquito D'Rivera and The Puppini Sisters--joins the Paul Taylor Dance Company and the Kennedy Center All-Star Swing Orchestra, under the direction of renowned Grammy-winning jazz producer John Clayton. The famed dance company, under the direction of Kennedy Center Honoree and Emmy Award winner Paul Taylor, spotlights swing dance. The co-chairs of the 2015 Spring Gala are Calvin and Janet Hill.
For information about the Special Event portion of the Spring Gala, including a dinner and reception, call (202) 416-8338 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.

Jul. 09, 2012Great Review from TheCelebrityCafe.com!
Chie Imaizumi’s latest CD,A Time of New Beginnings, is one of the most original jazz recordings I’ve had the pleasure of listening to in quite some time. Her music is honest and pure-hearted, blending culture, big band writing and American jazz traditions for an experience that can’t be beat (no pun intended).
Imaizumi’s dynamic tracks are beautifully crafted in their own right, but her vision is taken to new heights, thanks to the musicians accompanying her, all star players from the jazz world. What Imaizumi offers us in A Time of New Beginnings – a reprieve from the daily grind with which we struggle to keep up.
I highly recommend A Time of New Beginnings to jazz and non-jazz fans alike. Chie Imaizumi deserves to be more widely known, and this release surely does her tremendous talent justice.

Apr. 09, 2011Red Cross : Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami
On behalf of Japanese people, my family and friends in Japan, I'd like to thank you again for your kindness and contribution. All the CDs, score&parts sales(March 17- 31, 2011) via my website and cash donations total $935.40 was donated to the Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Fund.
Please continue sending good positive happy thoughts to my beautiful country Japan. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
My sincerest gratitude,

Mar. 17, 2011Earthquake in Japan
As many of you know, an 9.0-magnitude earthquake hit Japan, triggering tsunamis and nuclear power plant crisis. I'm from Saitama Pref, my immediate family live there or Tokyo(Kanto area), even though they've been experiencing occasional blackouts, aftershocks, wait in line 1hour to buy only a little gas etc, they are all safe and alive, though 2 of my best friends are pregnant with fear of radiation.
During March, I'm donating 100% of the profits from all sales(CD, score or parts) via my website to the Red Cross Japanese Relief Fund. I make absolutely no money at all from this. More than 452,000 people were staying in temporary shelters, without enough fuel, stoves, food, water, you name it. Please join me, Helen Keller once said " Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. "
Lastly, I'd like to thank those of you who contacted me to share your love with me.
Best regards and thank you.

Dec. 17, 2010US Air Force Falconaires release their new album " Sharing the Freedom "
US Air Force Falconaires release their new album named after the piece Imaizumi wrote. When she was asked to write a piece for them to play at the Monterey Jazz Festival, she said she looked back and thought of all the stories her grandmother told her. She grew up in Japan and when remembering her grandmother’s stories of World War II, she realized how far the nations have come.

" Positive vibes permeate the highly original music of... Chie Imaizumi. The accomplished Berklee grad creates dynamic works that are sophisticated in scope and charged with energy. Her latest release, a thrilling followup to 2007s Unfailing Kindness, showcases a cast of all-star soloists... This one's a sleeper and Imaizumi is definitely a talent worthy of wider recognition." — Bill Milkowski, JazzTimes

Oct. 10, 2010A Time of New Beginnings CD reviews!
Chie Imaizumi knows how to pick a band. When you bring in the likes of trumpeters Randy Brecker and Terell Stafford, bassist John Clayton, drummer Jeff Hamilton, saxophonists Steve Wilson and Gary Smulyan, you're on way to something special. Then, add in Imaizumi's compositions and arrangements, and the result becomes slamdunk great.
- Frank Alkyer- DownBeat - Critic's Picks
This music will speak for itself as the titles are seemingly self explanatory, expressing gratitude, fear, exploration, challenging the unknown, and the sheer joy of experiencing life. Having this CD in your collection can cure whatever ails you. Highly recommended!
***** Jeff Krow - Audiophile Audition
It's a beautifully crafted, beautifully played album, with a warm and familiar feel to its nine tunes that, at times, creates a real sense of nostalgia.
- Bruce Lindsay - All About Jazz
Remember when hot, Asian chicks were all playing classical violin? Gone. A secret the Rocky Mountains has been keeping from the rest of us, this moving set will remind you of dozens of sets you won't be able to put your finger on. A winner throughout.

A lot has happened since my last release "Unfailing Kindness" and much of it is expressed in my new music. Every piece is part of life journey and is written with my heart and from my soul. It's about growing and learning from the experiences that we all have, both positive and negative, never letting the negative take us to darker places but gaining strength to better bear the brunt of future storms.

I am quite impressed by her exceptional level of musicianship. I have not only listened to her recordings, but I have watched her conduct her compositions, rehearse and record as the leader of a large ensemble. This combination of skills is not something one sees very often and it is a breath of fresh air that I welcome at the high, professional level she embraces. The way she successfully combines her native influences with those found here in the United States is quite unique and unheard of. She impresses the highest caliber musician and audience member alike.

Dec. 10, 2009jazz89 KUVO / Norman Provizer's Jazz Notes for the Week of December 10, 2009
Born in Japan, Imaizumi now resides in Denver and she is something else. Her music (as well as the way she conducts it) simply makes your heart want to sing. Her small, big band is filled with strong players and is on stage Friday at 7 and 9 p.m. ($15).
It’s the last chance you have to hear her perform in town before she takes off for her recording trip to New York. For that adventure, she has a band that includes a host of mighty players from trumpeters Randy Brecker and Terell Stafford to bassist John Clayton and drummer Jeff Hamilton. They want to play her music and who can blame them.

Dec. 05, 2008Penguin Guide Review ***1/2 Stars(out of 4 stars)
Make a reputation as a pianist/organist in her native Japan but has more recently turned to arranging, encouraged by her friend Greg Gisbert.
***(*) Unfailing Kindness Capri 74081
Is she the new Toshiko Akiyoshi? They’re pretty different as musical personalities, but the comparison is bound to stick, given chie’s background. It’s not clear whether she intends to give up performing in favour of composition and arrangement, but it’s a pity that we don’t even get a flavour of her keyboard work on this superb Western debut. All the charts are originals and they range widely from the buoyant, Carribbean-tinged “ A Change for the Better", to the funcky “ The More The Merrier", to the breezy strut of “ Round and Round" and the rhythmic subtley to the title-track. There's a strong autobiographical streak to these charts, with the long “ Adversity" seeming to make a clear personal statement, while “ Lonely…", the solitary ballad and arguably the weakest cut, is inspired by the rigours of touring. Soft-centred through the latter track and the closing vocal “Another Day" are, they do also suggeswt a musician who is going to mature quickly and find ways of marrying technique – which she has by the bucket – to a more expressive idiom.
Nov. 28, 2008The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings : Ninth Edition
from Rocky Mountain News, Norman Provizer
But despite the number of larger jazz ensembles in town, the only one noted in the newly published ninth edition of the essential Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings by Brian Morton and the late Richard Cook (now a hefty 1,646 pages) is Chie Imaizumi's small big band. Its inaugural CD on Capri Records, titled Unfailing Kindness, receives high praise.
*** The new Penguin Guide to Jazz will be released on December 2, 2008!

Sep. 06, 2008Commission by the U.S.Air Force Academy Band’s "Falconaires"
Early this summer, I was asked by the U.S. Air Force Academy Band's "Falconaires" if I'm interested in writing a commission piece for the Monterey Jazz Festival 2008. I said yes of course!
I spent whole summer thinking about this piece.
When I realized how deep this commission can be, I realized again that how powerful music is.
Music is so powerful and beautiful.
I finished writing this piece the end of August,
and I went to the Air Force base yesterday to rehearse.
The title is " Sharing the Freedom"
As a result, I will be conducting the U.S. Air Force Academy Band's "Falconaires" at the Monterey Jazz Festival, Night Club/Bill Berry Stage. We will premiere this piece " Sharing the Freedom" together.
Cheers to the music!

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Bohemian Nights, LLC is proud to present its 2008 lineup of nearly 60 Colorado artists, on five music stages, in historic Downtown, Fort Collins this August. Fort Collins’ birthday is celebrated each year with Northern Colorado’s largest community festival, Bohemian Nights at the 20th Annual NewWestFest, August 15-17, 2008. This year’s lineup includes seven Colorado bands who are agency signed artists making their mark on the national music scene. A few of the many intriguing Colorado artists coming to this year’s festival are Otis Taylor, Eufórquestra and Chie Imaizumi Orchestra.
Receiving a number of awards and recognition in the past year, Chie Imaizumi Orchestra ( Pronounced "Chee-ay Ee-my-zu-me" ) new CD “Unfailing Kindness" appeared in five categories on the ballot for the 50th Grammy Awards. A native of Japan, composer/arranger/conductor Chie Imaizumi was named the 2007 Rocky Mountain Jazz “Artist of the Year" and “Rising Star Composer" by DownBeat Magazine, one of the most popular Jazz publications in print. Among her other accomplishments includes a commission by the Consulate General of Japan at Denver to arrange two famous Japanese traditional sounds, “Aka Tombo" and “Usagi to Kame". Assembling an all-star, large ensemble to play intricate and uplifting music, each of Imaizumi’s compositions presents a musical narrative that reflects a different mood or style and chronicles various experiences in Imaizumi’s life, taking listeners on a musical journey.

May. 25, 2008Commission for the JWO/Denver School of the Arts 2008
I've been a Guest Composer/Arranger/Artist in Residence at the Denver School of the Arts from August 2007 to May 2008. Early this year, the Director of Bands Department Mr. Dave Hammond commissioned me to write a piece for DSA Jazz Workshop Orchestra which received its premier on May 1st 2008 at the DSA Concert Hall.
My main inspirations were...
* It was a transition period for everybody at that time of year, some students are graduating and moving into their new life journey.
* Their smiles, those pure smiles are very special to me, inspire me, and deeply touch my heart every time I see that even though they are making fun of me : )
so... I wanted to write a piece which sound like a " Graduation Song ",
and can make students, their family and audiences smile .
The piece is classical music oriented.
The first part is baroque music oriented.
Stuednts wanted to play some funky stuff so I put a little bit of that in too...
In the end, everybody sing, dance, go crazy, and have fun haha : )
We also had an honor to play this piece at the beautiful "Ellie Caulkins Opera House" during DSA Graduation Ceremony on May 22 2008.
I'd like to thank Mr. Dave Hammond, the Denver Shool of the Arts, wonderful students and their family!
Congurats to the Graduats and keep shining!

I wear the Kimono Dress which was made out of my mom's Furisode Kimono. Thanks Mom!!!
The age of majority in Japan is 20. Seijin shiki is the Japanese coming-of-age ceremony.Government officials give speeches, and small presents are handed out to the new adults. Many women celebrate this day by wearing a kimono with furisode(long sleeves that drape down). Men sometimes also wear traditional dress (dark kimono with hakama).
so... this Kimono itself is 30 something years old!(my mom told me not to mention the exact year ...)
